Casting Off Tyranny is a play-by-mail keepsake game based on the true historical practice of hiding espionage intelligence into knitted objects to win wars. Players take on the role of resistors in a historical conflict and play pivotal roles in overthrowing fascists and tyrants. When they learn the enemy’s secrets, they knit them into a garment using techniques the game teaches you to hide messages into your knits. When finished, players mail each other their knitted work along with a letter hinting at the hidden code. Once players receive the garment and decipher the code, they take actions to liberate their homeland. Players will be forced to balance their ability to take direct action against oppressors with the personal costs those direct actions will lead to. The game is played in timed campaigns, with our first campaign focusing on the French Resistance to Nazi Occupation in World War Two.
